My Simple Woman Daybook for October

For Today Looking out my window I see the beginning of the leaves turning colors and the absents of hummingbirds. Will need to take down the feeder and clean to store till next year. I am thinking about what I need to finish for Christmas. I have some quilts and other projects started that just have a little something to have them ready. I am thankful (one word) FAMILY One of my favorite things I am creating slippers for gifts. Found this really cool pattern for crochet slippers that have a knitted look. I am wearing grey yoga pant and white and grey striped woven shirt. Really thought it was going to be a little cooler today when I dressed this morning. I just wishing it was I guess, so I was a little warm today. I am reading I am hoping To be by the end of the month, cycling 6 miles at a time. Right now it's 3 miles....4x's a week I am learning about more on the country, foods, traditions and culture of

Making Progress

It was another day of taking my mom to a doctor appointment and her test came out just fine, thank god. While waiting I was able to finish one slipper to the pair. And seeing how I will be driving mom to her HCE meeting tomorrow I'll be able to get the other one started. While in Tulsa she was up to going to Hobby Lobby because she needed something so while there I looked for some yarn to go with the CAL. Found a couple I think will work. Do need to find a soft peachy color and a copper like one. This evening was able to get a little sewing in. Yesterday I had trimmed the Michelle Hill's BOM from a few years back, to get ready for the binding. I did not quilt this myself, Pam at Sager Creek did. She does a beautiful job, love the cross-hatch and outlined the applique. So this is one of things I was able to do, still need to finish it off by hand. antique thimble holder

A New Fun Stash Buster

Spicier Life CAL started today, which is a crochet along that Sandra over at Cherry Heart has designed. Will be a sampler blanket and will be perfect for me to have a chance to use up some of my stash. Here is what I have so far come up with... out of what I have  and out of the 14 different colors needed I was able to find 9 that were close to the colorway I liked the best. These are her colorways and mine will be closer to the top right She gives a chart of the colorways she offers in kits but also leaves a space for us to use if we want to use yarn we have. The picture doesn't show the true color. I just do not have many pinks or peachy colors so I will need to purchase, 5 is better than 14 skeins. Each week she will put out a new part. Today is part 1 and there will be 6 part. I plan to start this after I get the slippers I'm working on done, which I hope to start before part 2 starts next Tuesday. If you crochet and have

Whats Up 10.02.17

Here it is October, just love this month. Mainly because our anniversary is this month. Up on the wall is the Vintage Garden and slowly making progress. I can say that it is 2/3 completed as far as the applique is concerned. Starting to come together don't you think. This one too has been in the making for a long time. Think maybe I started it 10 years ago or so. Seems like I have a lot of projects around here that been in the works for years. Sure feels good getting them finished. Did some more crocheting on the slippers today while at mom's. Have the heel done and now working on the foot part. Coming along nicely and will make a nice gift. Never did show you the cool egg holder I found last month. It holds 18 eggs. Looks so pretty sitting out on the counter. I know I have mentioned this before but as long as I do not wash the eggs, they can stay out for a month without any problems. One of the benefits of having chickens and fresh eggs.

Hodge Podge

The past couple of days I have been spending time at Mom because her CHF is acting up and she wasn't feeling very good. We would sit and crochet while talking, which was hard for her yesterday because she get breathless just talking sometimes. I was able to finish my sister's slippers and they feel good on. I am definitively going to have to make myself a pair. Before I go and buy some yarn, need to check out the stash and see if there is some soft yarn like the stuff I used for my sister, That yarn was from Hobby Lobby "I Love This Yarn" but not sure if there is any here. Hope so, really would like to use up my stash Speaking of which I'm doing that with this pair I just started for my youngest daughter who is a OSU grad (orange and black) and still lives in Stillwater (my future quilter). Had to change pattern because this yarn is lighter weight and the pattern used on my sister's slipper just wasn't working out, turning out smaller

Groundhog Expressway

I need to tell you about how the hen house is again a drive thru  A couple of years ago I had a groundhog dig a tunnel from the outside of the hen house to an opening inside. They seem to have a love for chicken layer pellets. We were able to set the trap inside the house where the opening was and succeed to trap it. We relocated him and filled the hole. Hadn't had any problem with them until recently. Have seen a few around like this on the the back porch But a little over two weeks ago my sister came across this one while out letting the chickens out of the house. Now we have a problem, they do not bother the hens but they can eat a large amount of feed. I had hoped I had scared it away but that was not the case. My sister spotted it again but this time it was running out of the house through the yard and under the fence. I figured it was coming through the hen door out to pasture so I was a little surprised but also pleased

Tomorrow is always a Day Away

I have been wanting to write all week but have had things pop up and I catch myself saying "tomorrow". Can say for once tomorrow is here and have so much to share. These past two weeks have been mainly spending time with family and very little sewing.  No I'll take that back, I've done a lot of handwork because I could take it with me to Doctor appointments and such. I have spent time in the morning quilting on the blue " Rocky Road ".  I can sort of see this one being completed after 20 years. Yes you read that right...... 20 years ago I started this quilt and maybe started quilting on it off and on 10 years ago. this picture shows that there is a few background spaces to do and I'll have one side done. Working hard to get it done. I have a stack of others waiting to get quilted. I did get all the fabric I had for the Mosaic Diamond cut out. My youngest daughter has becomed very interesting in wor
